Howard Andrew “Andy” Williams was born on December 3, 1927, in Wall Lake, in western Iowa, and got his start singing with his brothers in a family quartet.
He became a top recording artist and hosted the popular Andy Williams Show on television. His signature song, “Moon River,” became one of the most recognizable ballads of the era.
Williams' warm baritone defined easy-listening pop for decades, and “Moon River” remains his enduring signature. He later built the Moon River Theatre, but his story started in a small Iowa town.
He is among Iowa's most successful popular musicians.
