The story

How it began

Des Moines Area Community College was established in 1966 as one of Iowa's new public two-year colleges, with its main campus built on the north edge of Ankeny.

As Ankeny and the metro grew, so did DMACC — adding campuses across central Iowa and becoming the largest community college in the state, and one of Ankeny's signature institutions and employers.
