Harry Reasoner was born on April 17, 1923, in Dakota City, Iowa. He began in Iowa and Minnesota journalism before joining CBS News, where his wry, literate writing set him apart.
In 1968 he became a founding co-editor of 60 Minutes, the most successful newsmagazine in television history, and also served as a network evening-news anchor.
Reasoner helped invent the TV newsmagazine format that still dominates the genre, and his essays were models of broadcast writing. He carried Iowa roots into the top ranks of American journalism.
