The Pella family that turned a roll-up window screen into one of the country's best-known window and door makers.
In 1925 Pete and Lucille Kuyper acquired the rights to a roll-up window screen and founded the Rolscreen Company in Pella, Iowa.
From that single product the family built a full line of windows and doors under the Pella brand, growing Rolscreen into Pella Corporation while keeping it family-owned and Pella-based.
Pella grew into one of the most recognized window brands in America while remaining rooted in a Dutch-heritage town of a few thousand people. The company and family are central to Pella's economy, its Tulip Time festival, and its civic life.
The Kuyper family's philanthropy has supported education, the arts, and community projects across Marion County.
Pella Corporation is based in Pella, Iowa. A large, family-owned manufacturer still headquartered in Pella
1925.
