Barb and Rick Anderson launched Mom's Meals in Nevada, Iowa, in 1999 — Barb was the original “Mom.” In 2003 they moved the business to Ankeny.
It grew into PurFoods, delivering refrigerated, medically-tailored meals to seniors and patients across the country under the Mom's Meals and NourishCare brands.
From a small Nevada, Iowa startup, PurFoods grew into a coast-to-coast operation employing more than 1,200 people — hundreds of them in Ankeny — as home-delivered health meals became a fast-growing field.
It is one of Ankeny's larger and lesser-known success stories.
