Later removed to Osceola, Iowa in Nov. 1866 and ran a smithy there until retiring about 1900.
Republican, Methodist, self-made man.
Married Mary Ann Garretson on 5 May 1836.
Died June 15, 1901 at his son's home in Clarke County, Iowa.
Nine children, four of whom died in infancy.
